The Fordyce School Board at its Feb. 10 meeting approved extending the school day by 10 minutes from March 2-May 1, 2026 to recover lost time from the days missed due to the recent ice storm.

Schools were shut down for a week during the last week in January after a winter ice storm blanketed parts of Arkansas making roads dangerous to travel.

Graduation and academic planning meetings are ongoing with seniors and juniors. All juniors will take the ACT on Tuesday, February 24.

Four seniors will tour Lockheed Martin in East Camden in the near future with potential summer job opportunities. Two seniors represented Fordyce High School and Southeast Arkansas Community Based Education Center (SEACBEC) at the state capitol.  The two students have received their certified nursing assistant (CAN) pathways and are working towards their licensed practical nurse (LPN) degrees.

Fordyce Superintendent Rhonda Lawson announced that solar panel installation at the school is progressing with construction beginning soon. The district also expects over $200,000 in savings as the state assumes health insurance matching costs, she reported.

The next meeting of the Fordyce School Board will be held Tuesday, March 10th in the school library at 5:30 p.m.
