Gilbert Hersel “Buddy” Hooder, 90 of Hampton died Saturday, February 14, 2026 at St. John’s Place in Fordyce. Born December 30, 1935 in Calhoun County, he was a son of the late Gilbert Henry “Tex” Hooder and Ila Rhea Thomason Hooder.
He was a Korean War veteran of the US Army, and member of Maul Road Methodist Church. He was known as a craftsman, building and refurbishing furniture, and was the owner and operator of Country Touch Upholstery.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wives, Vivian and Margaret Ann Hooder; great-grandchild, Walker Dean Gorman; and a brother, John Hooder.
He is survived by his daughter, Marcy Gorman and her husband, Dean of Hampton; two grandchildren, Silas Gorman, Jordan Gorman and his wife, Jessica; three great-grandchildren, Caden Clayton, Viviana Gorman, Savannah Gorman; and his good friend, Bro. Garland Skidmore.
Funeral services will be private. The family would like to thank St. John’s Place for their care.
